Minnkota's Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) establishes its plan to deliver safe, reliable, cost-effective and environmentally responsible electricity to its member cooperatives for the next 15 years. Minnkota's most recent proposed IRP was accepted by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission in August 2023.

The IRP is in place to ensure Minnkota's resources and demand side options are the best fit for the cooperative's forecasted energy requirements. The plan must consider how to maintain or improve electric service to consumers, maintain low electric rates and minimize environmental impacts and the risk of adverse effects from financial, social and technological impacts.
